Use a program called automatix available for ubuntu , and it installs a host of things that aren't as readily available on the regular synaptics servers, along with Firefox 1.5.... And no, there is nothing you need to remove to install it.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Unless I'm missing something, I haven't had a single problem with a brand new install of 5.10 on my new 600m laptop.  I am completely content.
