The downside of DLP of course is that the lamp will wear out somewhere in the neighborhood of 5000 hours of use. A replacement bulb can be ordered online and runs roughly $200. The color wheels can also wear out (they are rotating at 14,000 rpms after all), but they're also user replaceable if you're comfortable with computer hardware fiddling. For me the fact that the parts that can fail are user serviceable by a tech savvy person was a definite plus rather than a drawback.
I suggest you take a look at the Samsung in person and see what you think. I'm definitely a fan of DLP when it comes to price and performance. Hope that helps.
